Day 123: 52 Weeks to an Organized Home

organized home challenge
I love a good purge! (Of stuff, not food- otherwise I would be much thinner!)  I take a special kind of pleasure in throwing things out or starting another "garage sale" box.  I have at least one garage sale a year, and yet I still find things to get rid of every time!  I think of myself as a moderately organized person.  My family is not color coded with coordinating folders and work stations and fancy binders.  But I do know where everything is in my house, I have a basic filing system, I'm pretty sure I would just hyperventilate and pass out if I ever walked into a Container Store.  So when I saw this pin: The 52 Week Organized House Challenge I was immediately intrigued.  I like the fact that it gives you focus each week, and doesn't require you to turn your house upside down for 3 days and emerge hopelessly frazzled and overwhelmed.  Week 1 and 2 are kitchen centered.  This morning I started under my kitchen sink and then moved through all my cabinets and drawers.  So I'm ahead of the game! Granted, I am a regular purger, so it wasn't too enormous a task, but I did still fill up a small box with garage sale items and tossed several things out.  I also made what should have been an obvious decision.  One of the tips was to determine how much you use what's out on your counters, and that would help you decide when and where to store things.  I've had a coffee maker out on my counter since we were married.  The only time we ever use it is for company or maybe a few weeks in the winter when it's cold and Jared wants a hot drink in the evenings.  We just aren't coffee drinkers.  However, Jared is an iced tea fanatic.  And every other day, he's pulling the iced tea maker out of the cupboard to make tea and then wrestling it back into place.  DUH! I switched them today.  Such a simple change that will make every day life a little easier! So don't be overwhelmed.  Take it one week at a time, and in a year, you won't recognize your home!
