Day 18: "Boy Bathroom Smell" Solution= Fail

I didn't really mean to do another Pinterest failure since I'm only in my third week of daily pins, but it's getting late in the day and nothing really jumped out at me.  I tried this solution for "Boy bathroom smell" (anyone with boys in the house knows exactly what I'm talking about) a couple months ago when I first pinned it.  I was really hoping for a miracle here, since nothing really seems to work that well.  But what I got was just a big mess.  When you combine the baking soda and lemon juice first, as the instructions state, you immediately get a huge fizzy mess.  When is settles down, you have a goopey paste to use, but it doesn't wipe up well, and when it dries you have even more of a mess to clean up.  It even turns yellow, so you have added to your current problem, rather than fixed it.  After you spread the paste, you're supposed to spray it with vinegar, wait until it stops fizzing, and wipe up.  When I sprayed the vinegar there was no fizz at all.  That all happened when I mixed the lemon juice and soda.  So I ended up with a bathroom that smelled like vinegar, a yellow paste on the floor around the toilet that looked like old pee, and dried paste in the grout between my tile.  Definitely do NOT try this at home!

  1. Unfortunately I didn't see your post before I did try this at home, but my opinion is the same as yours. Don't bother trying this. I lost count on how many paper towels I used trying to clean up the goopy mess left behind!!! And my floor around the toilet felt chalky even after a couple of heavy duty moppings. I'll stick with my normal routine of cleaning the toilet (and behind the toilet) every other day to keep the 'boy smell' to a minimum!!!
