I understand that this post will only apply to a select few out there. Those who are still valiantly fighting the war against stinky, dirty diapers. Those brave souls who don rubber gloves and breathe out of their mouths while cleaning the excrement off of their offspring. Too much? Yeah, I gagged a little with that mental image. Anyway, the diaper pails of today are a vast improvement over the options in the past. The only downside is how ridiculously expensive the refill liners are! We only use ours for dirty diapers to help make it last longer. But when I saw this pin detailing how to refill your cartridge with a trash bag, I had to try it out!
They have pretty good step by step directions as well as photos, so check it out. My husband took it a step farther and actually refilled the plastic ring instead of just draping the bag inside the pail. We'll see how well that works. The test will be how easy it is to get out of the pail after it's full of diapers, and how long one bag will last. I'll update this post after we have more answers! Hope it works!
***Update: My baby's room smells like poop! Ugh! While this may be a good "in a pinch" replacement, beware: if you open your genie to toss in a diaper, your eyes will water and you will gag. I know the diaper genie refills are designed to help keep in the smell, and now we know- they actually do. Don't bother with this unless you have to just get through the day until you can run to the store!***
