I really should wait to post about this since we haven't given these out to anyone yet, but I have other unfinished projects going that aren't ready to blog about just yet. So a few people may be getting a sneak preview of their gift from my boys. This was a really fun project to do with them. I saw this pin that was my inspiration for these guys early this year. There was no link, just a photo.
I agree, these are much cuter than mine, but I had to go cheap, kid-friendly, and use baby food jars, since that's what I had available. The general product is still the same. I filled the bottom jar with peppermints, the middle with homemade hot chocolate mix, and the top jar with marshmallows. Then I hot glued the three jars on top of each other, hot glued the poms on for buttons, and tied on the pipe cleaner scarves. We cut little pieces of orange pipe cleaner and glued them on for the noses. A black sharpie worked very well to color on the eyes and mouths. For my hats, I used construction paper instead of fabric. I wrote the instructions on the hat in white ink so I didn't have to figure out how to attach a card with instructions and Merry Christmas wishes. Overall, including the ingredients to make the chocolate mix, this cost less than $10 to put together.
It has been lots of fun to put these together with the boys. They are excited about giving someone a gift that they helped put together. And I'm excited to teach them about giving without breaking the bank!
