Day 224: Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal in the Crock Pot

I had a delicious breakfast this morning, courtesy of Pinterest and my crock pot.  I saw a pin that was just a photo and brief description last night, and when I pinned it, I thought, I have all those ingredients.  Oatmeal sounds good for breakfast tomorrow.  Five minutes later it was ready to go and cooking away!  This morning the kitchen smelled divine and I had a healthy, warm breakfast ready.  It makes a big batch- I should have cut it in half since the boys don't really eat oatmeal.  Charlie liked it, though.  Jared and I both had a large bowl and there's at least enough for 4 more big bowls.  I'd say it makes 8 servings of about 1/2-2/3 cup each.  So if you are a breakfast family, you should definitely try this one out!  I made a couple changes to the "recipe" I found.  Namely, using a bit more brown sugar and cinnamon and peeling the apples first.

throw 2 sliced apples, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon in the bottom of the crock pot. Pour 2 cups of oatmeal and 4 cups of water on top. Do NOT stir. Cook overnight for 8 – 9 hours on low. : FoodPicsGo.com

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal- adapted from a post on FoodPicsGo

Ingredients:
2 apples, peeled and diced (I used one Granny Smith and one Fuji)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 cups old-fashioned oats  (this also was not specified- I used what I had, which was quick oats. It turned out fine, but I think old-fashioned oats would hold up better and because of the long cook time, it renders quick oats unnecessary.)
4 cups water

Place apples on the bottom of the crock pot.  Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the top.  Pour in oats and gently pour in water.  Do NOT stir.  Cook on low 8-9 hours.
