Thanks to Pinterest, we are going crafty and homemade for the teacher gifts this year. So today, I made hot chocolate mix for a project we worked on together. Well, Henry started in the kitchen with me, but quickly got bored as it was taking longer than expected to get everything put together. I actually finished it all tonight, but I saved one for him to put together tomorrow so he won't be so bitterly disappointed.
Anyway, this hot chocolate mix is quick to make, inexpensive when you consider how much you have after putting it all together, and it really does mix better than the store bought pouches. I would definitely recommend making this for a party or large group. It also makes a great gift. Click on the link below for a free download of printables with the instructions. They fit perfectly on a mason jar lid. It tastes really yummy with marshmallows and a peppermint melting at the bottom of the cup! (I had to test it, you know-for the integrity of my blog, of course!) Enjoy :)
Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix from Pennies on a Platter
- 3 cups nonfat dry milk powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients into a large bowl. Pour half of the mixture into the bowl of a food processor and process until the chocolate is finely ground. Transfer to an airtight container, then repeat with the remaining mix. Store in the airtight container for up to 3 months.
To make the hot cocoa drink, mix 1/3 cup of the cocoa mix with 1 cup hot milk
